JGA served as the lead planning and technical designers for the project, overseeing the construction phase as Design Support. This required seamless coordination with other consultants and the main developer, Infinity Group.
This development consisted of four new build dwellings on the site of Les Bas Courtil, carefully positioned to the rear of the protected main house and barn to complement their historic significance. The site layout has been meticulously planned to maximize its potential while ensuring a high standard of design that respects the surrounding conservation area. The dwellings are modern in aesthetic, yet their design remains sympathetic to the character of the site and its context, ensuring harmonious integration with the existing environment.
The new homes have been thoughtfully stepped to follow the natural topography of the site, embracing the changing levels to create a visually subtle arrangement. This approach not only enhances the architectural interest of the development but also ensures the new dwellings are concealed behind the renovated main house and barn when viewed from the East coast, preserving the prominence of the protected building. The design balances modern, clean lines with contextual sensitivity, using materials and forms that resonate with the local vernacular while offering contemporary function and style.
This project demonstrates a careful and respectful approach to development within a sensitive site, delivering modern, high quality homes that complement and enhance the historic surroundings.
