Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines programmed to think and learn like a human would.
Some early misconceptions of AI are that it will replace today’s workforce, or take over the world using killer robots… when in fact, it is assisting several industries to focus on what they do best, and for us at JGA that is to provide our clients with exceptionally designed spaces that are constructed to perfection through well-considered detailing utilising sustainable practises throughout.
But can utilising AI be the key for us as Architectural Technologists to help design your future?
Implementing AI into our process is an exciting yet cautious endeavor. While we have only begun to scratch the surface of what AI is capable of and are early in the adoption stage, we recognise the potential AI has to support our workflows without replacing our personal touch and professional service that we tailor to each individual client’s needs.
How is JGA utilising AI now?
Our first encounter with AI began with a focus on design assistance. AI tools such as “Text to Image” generators or image enhancement tools for initial design inspiration have allowed our team to dedicate more time to creative problem solving and client interactions, which are the cornerstones of our practice.
These applications can analyse a variety of design parameters and offer suggestions based on the clients personal preferences, allowing us to experiment with innovative concepts quicker than ever before.
However, although these tools provide a valuable insight into what is possible, they can often lack the understanding and clarity of our clients personal vision that only our experienced architectural technologists (AT’s) can offer through quick feasibility sketches.
A Tailored Approach
As AI weaves its way into our other workflows, we remain acutely aware of the importance of our clients’ relationships. The process of design is incredibly personal which often involves gaining an understanding of the unique needs, aspirations and the contexts of our clients. While AI can lend a helping hand in producing and refining design options, it cannot replicate the empathy and intuition that we as AT’s provide. We believe that this technology should augment our expertise, not overshadow them.
Constant Adaptation
As we look forward, our adoption of AI will require a thoughtful and measured approach. We understand that AI software and tools are in the early stages of development and do not quite yet meet the complex requirements our work demands.
However, the architectural industry is forever changing and our commitment to staying attuned to these new technologies must continuously be assessed.
