Appointed as the lead planning and technical designers, JGA took on the vital role of design support during the construction stage, working closely with the project team and Infinity Group as developer.
The conversion of the main house at Les Bas Courtil showcases a meticulous approach to preserving and adapting a protected building, transforming it into five high quality residential flats. The project includes 2no. two-bedroom dwellings, 2no. one-bedroom dwellings, and a studio apartment, all designed to meet modern living standards while retaining the building’s historic character. High priority was placed on conserving as many original elements as possible, ensuring the integrity and heritage of this important landmark are celebrated and preserved.
Extensive surveys and detailed documentation were undertaken to ensure that any elements requiring replacement were crafted to match the original construction, maintaining the building’s authenticity. Despite the emphasis on retention, the entire building has been upgraded to comply with current building regulations, including thermal and soundproofing enhancements. This careful balance between heritage preservation and contemporary functionality has created living spaces that are both characterful and comfortable.
Structural upgrades, including the restoration and reinforcement of the existing roof, were carried out in close collaboration with structural engineers, CBL, to ensure the longevity and safety of the building. This sensitive conversion demonstrates an exemplary approach to blending conservation with modernization, providing high quality residential accommodation while respecting the building’s historical significance and architectural value.
