This project involves re-designing the interior spaces of the two rooms that adjoin the Frossard ward. This is a challenging brief as these rooms have to cater to a wide variety of ages and needs.
The concept designs by JGA for the new children’s playroom and adjoining side room at Princess Elizabeth Hospital showcase a vibrant, engaging, and therapeutic environment tailored to young patients and their families. The playroom is designed to foster creativity, relaxation, and a sense of wonder through its carefully curated elements. Themed around nature and underwater motifs, the space incorporates soft, pastel colours, playful furniture, and imaginative wall and ceiling designs, creating a calming yet stimulating atmosphere.
Central to the design is the bespoke storage and seating unit, featuring curved shapes and integrated shelving that doubles as a cozy hideaway for children. Flexible seating arrangements, including beanbags and modular sofas, allow for group activities or quiet retreats. The ceiling features dynamic, wave-like panels, adding dimension and reinforcing the natural theme while enhancing acoustics.
The adjoining side room provides a quieter, more private space for activities or rest, maintaining the same colour palette and attention to comfort. This space includes soft seating, desks for creative work or reading, and thoughtfully positioned storage solutions. Both rooms prioritize accessibility and safety, with rounded edges on furniture and materials chosen for durability and hygiene.
Our thoughtful design aims to transform the children’s ward experience, creating a playful yet therapeutic environment that supports emotional well-being and recovery, offering children a space to feel comforted, inspired, and engaged during their time at the hospital.
