James Gavey, our Managing Director, recently caught up with clients who have relocated to the island and now look forward to undertaking a renovation project on the South coast of Guernsey.
Born and bred in Guernsey, James loves to discuss his passion for island life and the importance of passing on recommendations to ensure relocators receive clear guidance and a welcoming experience, by introducing them to experienced specialist advisors.
Having a relaxed discussion with clients about Guernsey in general quickly turned into a lengthy discussion about which restaurants they have tried (of course!), followed by the property market and focused back to design and their specific project.
Below, we hear of their journey and how they are settling into life in Guernsey so far…
Why did you choose to relocate to Guernsey?
“We chose to relocate to Guernsey to be closer to family in the UK, as we had been living overseas for the past 19 years. Guernsey offered us so much more than the UK, namely un-spoilt beaches and landscape, better tax regime, more sunshine hours, connectivity to the UK and a safe environment in which to live.”
What advice did you seek prior to the move?
“We contacted Locate Guernsey who were invaluable in helping us not only make the decision to move here, but they streamlined the process for us which made it less stressful.”
Did you face any challenges during the process or was it fairly straightforward?
“With Locate Guernsey’s help the process was fairly straightforward. We are so grateful to them for their help and support which continues to this day.”
How has island life treated you so far?
“Island life treats us well! We have a better work/life balance here and have met some lovely people since our arrival.”
How was your property search experience?
“Our property search experience was quick! We spent a week in Guernsey looking at houses and found the one that resonated with us the most. We met with several agents, all of whom were so helpful and informative. We could not have asked for a better experience.”
You have chosen to fully renovate your property in the south of the island. How have you found the design process for your new home?
“We have found the design process enjoyable and satisfying how the design has evolved. Working with JGA helped galvanise our decision making process. James and his JGA team have high standards and their attention to detail impressed us.”
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of relocating to Guernsey?
“Guernsey has a lot to offer and plenty to do when you are here. It felt like home for us straight away and we love it here. We would advise any potential relocator to Guernsey to contact Locate Guernsey for help. Do plan a visit to explore the island, view properties and see if Guernsey is the right fit for you. Guernsey house prices are higher than the UK so be prepared for that too!”
