What a year it has been! As we bid farewell to 2023, we’re pleased to reflect on an incredible year of achievements, milestones, and community involvement. Thank you to everyone including our amazing team, loyal clients, and supportive partners who have not just been part of the last year but the last 10 years. Here’s what we got up to in 2023.
A decade of dedication: Celebrating 10 years of JGA
This year marked a significant milestone for JGA – our 10-year anniversary. To mark this achievement, we hosted a celebration at Vistas, bringing together our team, clients, and colleagues. It was an evening of fun and appreciation for the support that has fuelled our growth over the past decade.
JGA EPIC Week
We proudly sponsored the Just Get Active (JGA) EPIC Week, an initiative that encouraged our community to embrace an active lifestyle while supporting two incredible charities – This is EPIC and the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation. A special shout-out to our director, James Gavey, our technician, Martin Savident, Phillip Smith, from This is EPIC, and Pete Beausire, from PPBF, for rowing the equivalent of a marathon on a static rower, every single day for seven consecutive days! Together, we raised over £20,000 for these deserving causes.
Showcasing Guernsey’s architectural expertise
We attended the Relocate to Guernsey Show in London. James and Miles, shared their insights on building projects in Guernsey, contributing to the island’s growth and development. It was an opportunity to put Guernsey on the map and showcase the advantages of creating your dream home on the island.
Island Games water feature
We took on the challenge of creating the water feature for the Island Games, a symbolic representation of collaboration and unity. The interactive wheel, operated by solar power, is now displayed at Footes Lane. It stands as a lasting reminder of the successful Island Games in Guernsey, highlighting both sporting excellence and community spirit.
From sketch pad to reality
This year witnessed the progress and completion of several noteworthy projects:
- Amherst Place: We unveiled the transformation of this Georgian property which was extended and fully renovated to provide its owners with a historic home that’s fit for the future. Find out more here.
- Mill Street Café: A testament to our commitment to community spaces, we assisted in the technical drawings and interiors uplifting the space to an attractive community hub in the Old Quarter.
- Les Bas Courtil: We saw phase one of this listed site transform into Sycamore Avenue housing development which provides 13 mixed units. We also continue to work on the construction details to restore the main listed building ‘Les Bas Courtil’ back to its former glory by blending old and new, respecting the property’s legacy.
- Rocque A L’or: An exciting new build farmhouse is gathering pace towards being wind and water tight by February We look forward to managing the design of this project through to completion in autumn 2024.
Expanding our team
This year we welcomed a new Architectural Apprentice to the team. Danny Lewis-Gallienne joined after completing his A Levels in Art, Design Technology and Business Studies at Elizabeth College. He’s currently studying at the College of Further Education undertaking the Construction and the Built Environment Level 3 course.
We also can’t forget Jude, our Trainee Barkitectural Technician. He’s grown into his role with an impeccable sense of style and paw-sitively friendly attitude!
As we close the chapter on 2023, we look forward to what the future holds. With many exciting concepts considered and presented, we’re excited to continue detailed designs in 2024 and beyond to ensure our clients are gaining a valuable service pre-construction and through to completion.
Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to another decade of architectural innovation, community engagement, and shared successes.
